The Benefit of Internet.

The power of Internet and its global reach gives wings to small to mid size firms an opportunity to reach their market. Not only that, big firms also spend a substantial capital in advertising on Internet. More and more new users (almost 150,000 new users' added everyday) are joining the league of Internet users. Everyone access Internet for certain benefits. Infact Internet benefits in many ways, more than you can imagine.

That is absolutely right because I often use Internet for finding an idea to create better robot. I also download softwear from Internet that can be use to analyze my robot. With Internet also I can connect with other people example with society of robot to exchange idea for creating robot. Other than that I can see multiple video of robot using youtube. That is very helping.

Robofest

This was the second robot competition that I take throughout my career as a roboticist at secondary school. This time the rule is different. The robot also different. This time we use Ma-Vin. Ma-Vin is a ready-built robot. All the part have been put all together. There are less space for creativity compare to Lego Mindstrom. The robot programing is using an easy icon-based visual programming and 'C' programmable WINAVR. With to me this program is not as complete as lego softwear. But its ok to me. As long as the robot can move.

But the real problem is not the robot. The problem was time of competition, was exactly same in the month of my SPM(Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia) that was 27 Novembers 2007 the day after my final paper at PWTC(Putra World Trade Center). Even in the day of as important as SPM, I could not resist my addict in robot. Whenever I have a time usually between the paper. I will use it to think about robot or go to the lab to watch the progressions of the robot that is being develop by my juniors. One thing that I can not forget was, a week before a competition my teacher have brought the Ma-Vin home and gather all of my juniors to their house to think. How to make the robot move? The reasons was to prevent me from keep thinking about robot and want me to focus on SPM. But what make me laugh was after 5 day my teacher came to my house and with my parents permission he brought me to his house. The problem was the juniors do not no how to make a programme that is begin with distant sensor and end with line follower. I know what you all think but it's look simple but believe me it easy for mind to imagine but its hard for grasp it. But actually its easy if you know how, so that's happen here. For five day my juniors keep thinking how to solve it and blank. I only took five hour and the programme is completely suit with the robot. That is the gap between me and my juniors.

The day had come our competition is schedule on 9.00 a.m. We arrive a little let due of traffic jam. We rush to competition hall and luckily the only thing that we miss is opening event and rules announcement. Fuh.... Then we play like nothing happen. There are two stage in this robot competition. Group stage and elimination round. Our first battle is with school that I cant mention here. We are disqualified in our first battle because of our fault do not know the rules and the stupidity of my friends who touch the robot. Even after that we won all together the 3 battles with full marks 300, this time after I have scold him like hell. But we still did not have enough points to go to elimination round. Well I hate to continue this story because I HATE LOST!!

My Second Robot

I use this robot during my second years I'm in robotic club. This robot is the next generation of RCX Lego Mindstrom. This robot is known as NXT Lego Mindstrom. What makes me happy is my teacher give the responsibility to handle this robot to my group because my team is the most excellent group in our school compare to others team.

The main component in this kit was a brick-shaped computer called the NXT brick. It can take input from up to four sensors and control up to three motors, via RJ12 cables, very similar to but incompatible with RJ11 phone cords. The brick has a 100x64 pixel monochrome LCD display and four buttons that can be used to navigate a user interface using hierarchical menus. It also had a speaker and can play sound files at sampling rates up to 8 kHz. Power is supplied by 6 AA (1.5 V each) batteries in the consumer version of the kit and by a Li-Ion rechargeable battery and charger in the educational version.

What make me surprise about this robot wear I can make very simple programs using the menu on the NXT. More complicated programs and sound files can be downloaded using a USB port or wirelessly using Bluetooth. Files can also be copied between two NXT bricks wirelessly, and some mobile phones can be used as a remote control. Very advance compare to RCX. But unfortunatly I enter a competion where in my category there are no NXT.

My First Robot

This was one of my first robot. This robot is created using Lego Mindstrom. LEGO Mindstorms is a line of Lego sets combining programmable bricks with electric motor, sensor, Lego bricks, and Lego technic pieces. This is my first robot set that I use. Using this set I can create any robot that I desire. Usually I only create mobile robot just like in the picture.

The thing that I like using this robot was Lego Mindstorms can be used to build a model of an embended sistem with computer-controlled electromechanical parts. Many kinds of real-life embedded systems, from elevator controllers to industrial robots, may be modelled using Mindstorms. Means that I can create and study physics using this kit. If I want to study about acceleration and want to make an experiment I only to use this set as it's tool. So what I had study in class I can practice it and that's what make physics interesting.

This Robot is using a ROBOLAB GUI-based programming software, an icon based programing that you can create a program by joining its icon. To me this program is perfect. It have all the icon that I need. And if you wear good enough you can create program based on algorithm.

I use this robot and enter a SASBADI Robot Competition. Ha......... actually I really want to share my picture but the problem is my older computer had broken so all the picture that I take at that competition had............. but I can show you some of my robot..

Born of an Idea

Actually when I in form 4. I start to think of something. I can feel the imperfect of the state academic study guide. I think back through the time, actually if I think carefully since I'm in standard 1 till form 3 the learning process at school is the same.

First learn, and then make homework, then send the homework, check, after that at every semester their have an exam. Then these cycles will start again, and again, its look like the only reasons for study is just to get as much as ’A’ in exam. What school had given to me since I'm in standard 1 till form 3 is just an ability which I call it as "Kepandaian Atas Kertas". The condition which you can only apply that knowledge you learn only on the paper during exam. Then 'A' is like a ruler for measuring your clever ties.

I hate this corrupting attitude where 'A' is a goal. I hate what had happen to me. I want to apply the knowledge in real world, but where should I start. No body would teach me. Teachers thing that if their student got more 'A's means that their can apply the knowledge in real world. But actually their can't. Knowledge shall become my slave, not I become their slave. The knowledge that I have shall be use.

Then something came into my mind. I got this idea when accidently I heard that in my school their had built a new club known as robotic club. How miracle. Then I joining that club with my other two member. My first experience was, I thought the robot is just like in T.V. look advance but actually the robot that I use only a lego brick. Haha

The truth is robot is easy for mind to imagine but its hard to grasps it. At first sight I can't link a single peace of my knowledge that I have study on that robot. Arghhh.. It very frustrating. Even my teacher who have more knowledge then me can not built the robot.

From that time I think something. If and only if I can create, built and make the robot move. Then I shall have the real knowledge and I can free from "Kepandaian Atas Kertas". That is my motivation. I start from scrape peace by peace because their no one else would teach me. And this is the beginning of my interesting, quite frustrating, challenging and exiting journey. The journey that shall change my perception of thinking about world around me.
